Calcium carbide method PVC is a polyvinyl chloride resin produced using calcium carbide as the core raw material. It is the mainstream production route of PVC in China (coal head route), which is different from petroleum based ethylene method PVC; The chemical formula is exactly the same as that of PVC produced by ethylene method,
1、 Production process flow
1. Limestone and coke react at high temperatures (about 2000 ℃) in an electric arc furnace to produce calcium carbide CaC ₂
2. Calcium carbide water reaction: \ (\ boldsymbol {CaC2+2H2O \ rightarrow C2H2 ↑+Ca (OH) 2} \), produces * * acetylene
3. Acetylene+hydrogen chloride (HCl) is added under the action of a catalyst to generate vinyl chloride monomer VCM (traditionally mercury catalyst, the industry is comprehensively promoting mercury free catalytic transformation)
4. Suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer → PVC resin powder, dried and screened to obtain finished resin
>The vast majority of PVC produced by calcium carbide method in China adopts suspension polymerization process, and the product is white powder.
2、 Basic physical and chemical properties
Appearance: White fine powder, odorless; Density of 1.35-1.45 g/cm ³;
-Good acid and alkali resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, flame retardancy, and electrical insulation performance;
-Poor thermal stability, heat stabilizers must be added during processing;
-Insoluble in water and ethanol; Soluble in tetrahydrofuran, cyclohexanone, etc;
-The grades are divided by viscosity (SG model), and the most commonly used SG series in China is:
-SG-3: High degree of polymerization, soft products (hoses, films, synthetic leather)
-SG-5: Universal hard material, with the largest market demand, including pipes, plastic steel door and window profiles, and panels
-SG-7/SG-8: low polymerization degree, good flowability, injection molded parts, foam board, hard sheet material
