PA6 (Nylon 6, Polyamide 6, Nylon 6)
PA6 is a thermoplastic engineering plastic obtained by ring opening polymerization of caprolactam, and it is also the most widely used and cost-effective nylon variety, commonly known as nylon 6; The raw material comes from petroleum benzene → cyclohexane → caprolactam, which is different from PA66 (hexamethylenediamine+adipic acid condensation)
1、 Production process (mainstream VK tube continuous hydrolysis ring opening polymerization)
1. Caprolactam+water as initiator, hydrolyzed at high temperature of 240-270 ℃ to open the ring and generate aminocaproic acid
2. Continue condensation and chain growth to obtain crude PA6 melt
3. Extrusion and granulation → hot water extraction, washing away unreacted caprolactam monomers and oligomers
4. Deep drying to obtain finished PA6 slices (particles)
>Slices are divided into two main categories: spinning grade (fibers, curtain fabrics) and engineering plastic grade (injection molding/extrusion modification)
2、 Basic physical and chemical properties
-Appearance: Semi transparent milky white crystalline particles; Density 1.13-1.15 g/cm ³
-Melting point: 215-225 ℃; Processing melting temperature: 230-270 ℃
-Balanced water absorption rate: 3.5% (maximum feature: water absorption, toughness increases, stiffness decreases, size changes after water absorption) China National Chemical Corporation ..
-Shrinkage rate: pure resin 1.0%~1.5%
-Mechanics: high strength, high toughness, fatigue resistance; Self lubricating, low friction coefficient, wear-resistant, suitable for sliding friction parts
-Chemical resistance: resistant to oil, hydrocarbons, and weak acid and alkali; Not resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, and phenols
-Electrical performance: Good insulation, but insulation decreases after absorbing water
-Burning: It extinguishes itself upon leaving the fire, UL94 V2； Modification can achieve V0 flame retardancy

1. Spinning grade PA6: high viscosity, used for industrial silk, civilian nylon fiber, tire curtain fabric
2. Injection molding universal grade: medium viscosity, universal mechanical parts, buckles, shells
3. High flow injection grade: low viscosity, thin-walled parts, complex small parts, good flowability
4. Extrusion film grade: high viscosity, PA packaging film (barrier film, food packaging)
5. Modified grades: Glass fiber reinforced (GF10/GF30), toughened, flame-retardant, toughened and cold resistant, wear-resistant oil filled PA6

1. Automobile: intake manifold, connector, buckle, oil pipe, radiator water chamber, gear, brake pad base (mainly made of fiberglass reinforced PA6)
2. Machinery: gears, bearings, bushings, sliders, wear-resistant gaskets, chain guides
3. Electronic appliances: wiring terminals, connectors, coil frames (flame retardant PA6)
4. Textiles: Nylon filament, short fiber, fishing net, tire curtain fabric
